From our inception, Wyepak has distinguished itself from its peers in the copacking industry. Based in Hereford, we’ve built our reputation on meticulous attention to detail, quality, and careful planning, setting high standards in filling and packing liquids, gels, creams, and packing a variety of products from seasonal gifts to cosmetics and cleaning equipment. Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated by our triple ISO certification in Quality Management, Environment Management, and Health & Safety (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), an achievement that sets us apart in an industry notorious for less stringent practices.
Another step forward
We’re thrilled to announce that Wyepak has taken another significant stride forward by achieving Carbon Neutral status. Guided by independent consultants, they have assessed and audited our carbon footprint. Next year, we aim to raise the bar even higher by achieving Net Zero status. But what do these terms really mean, and why should they matter to our clients?
Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero explained
Being Carbon Neutral means that the greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprint) generated by our business activities are balanced out by removing or offsetting an equivalent amount of emissions. This is achieved through methods such as planting trees or investing in renewable energy projects.
Our journey to Carbon Neutrality involved categorising our emissions into three “scopes”. Scope One and Two emissions are direct and indirect emissions, respectively, from our operations like fuel combustion and purchased electricity. Scope Three emissions cover other indirect emissions from activities such as business travel and procurement.
The path to Net Zero status, our goal for 2024, is even more rigorous. In addition to offsetting our emissions, we’ll also need to further reduce them to less than 10% of pre-2022 levels. This includes actions to minimize emissions across all three scopes, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability at every level of our operation.
The benefits of going green
Our Carbon Neutrality and future Net Zero status offer multiple benefits. Beyond the obvious positive environmental impact and contribution to fighting climate change, these actions have shown we’re not just industry leaders in quality but have also underlined our leadership in environmental responsibility.
Moreover, as businesses worldwide are increasingly scrutinised for their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, partnering with a carbon-neutral copacker like Wyepak signals to your stakeholders that you take climate responsibility seriously; aligning your supply chain with sustainable practices – and enhancing your own brand reputation.
The journey to Carbon Neutrality
The assessment of our carbon footprint revealed that our annual emissions for the 2022 financial year amounted to 42.27 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). These emissions spanned across our business operations, from warehouse heating and business travel (Scope One) to electricity generated from solar panels (Scope Two) and staff commute, office and warehouse running (Scope Three).
Upon realising the extent of our carbon emissions, we’ve identified several steps towards reducing these figures. We’re exploring more eco-friendly transportation options, such as switching to hybrid or electric vans, and are considering sustainable alternatives to our current use of plastic wrap.
Next stop: Net Zero
Having offset our emissions by purchasing carbon credits, we have reached our Carbon Neutral status. To achieve Net Zero status next year, we’ll continue our efforts to reduce emissions and will purchase additional carbon credits to offset any remaining carbon footprint.
Our journey to Carbon Neutrality and beyond is an exciting step in our commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and environmental responsibility. It’s our belief that being a business leader means being an environmental leader as well, and we’re proud to take on this role.
Remember, by choosing Wyepak, you’re not only choosing quality – you’re choosing a better future for our planet. Together, in partnership, we can build a more sustainable world.
